Tadka Dal

Ingredients

  • 2 cups yellow lentils, washed
  • 1 litre water
  • 1 tsp chimeric
  • ½ tbsp Balti Curry Paste
  • 1 tbsp clarified butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 garlic clove, chopped
  • ½ tbsp. Balti Curry Paste
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of sugar
  • ½ lemon juice
  • Fresh chopped coriander
 

Directions

  1. Put lentils into a pot with 1 litre of water. Add chimeric and ½ tbsp Balti Curry Paste. Let it cook for ½ hour.
  2. Oil Float:

  3. Heat the clarified butter in a pan. Add the chopped garlic, the other ½ tbsp. of curry paste, and sprinkle with water.
  4. When the oil separates from the spices, add chopped tomato, stir and leave it to cook for 2 minutes.

  5. When lentils are soft and completely broken down, add oil float mixture.
  6. Add a pinch each of salt and sugar. Add the juice of half a lemon and some chopped fresh coriander. Stir and serve.


This recipe calls for Patak's Balti Curry paste. You can substitute any Patak's curry paste in its place.
